Cookies
There is no banner on this site asking you to accept cookies, and that is deliberate rather than an oversight. This page explains why.

One cookie, and it only exists once you sign in
No advertising cookies. No analytics. No tracking pixels. Nothing that follows you to another website, and nothing shared with anyone for their marketing.
Why there is no banner
UK law requires your consent before a site stores anything on your device that is not strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for. Cookies that are strictly necessary, such as the one that remembers you are signed in, are exempt.
The only cookie we set is that one. So there is nothing here to consent to, and a banner would be asking permission for something we are not doing. We would rather tell you plainly on a page like this than train you to click Accept without reading.
If we ever add anything that does need consent, you will get a proper choice before it is set, and it will be a real choice, with refusing as easy as accepting.

It is marked HttpOnly, so no script on the page can read it;
Secure, so it is only ever sent over an encrypted connection; and
SameSite=Lax, so another website cannot cause it to be sent.
Things that are not cookies but are worth saying anyway
Our web server keeps ordinary access logs, and Cloudflare, which carries the traffic, keeps its own. These record IP addresses and are used for keeping the service running and secure, not for tracking anybody.
Our pages currently load typefaces from Google Fonts, which means Google receives the IP address of anyone loading a page. That is not a cookie, but it is a third party seeing something about you, so it belongs on this page rather than hidden. We are moving to serving those files ourselves, which removes it.
Turning cookies off
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies. Blocking ours will not track you any less, because we are not tracking you, but it will stop you being able to sign in, since there would be nothing to remember you by between one page and the next.
